Overview

The Specialist, Claims & Risk Management is responsible for the settlement of claims. Reporting to the Manager, Risk Management, the Specialist will handle a full case load of liability claims through all stages of the settlement process.

Qualifications
 2-4 years of experience in the area of Bodily Injury, Liability, and Property Claims
 A CIP membership or fellowship in the Insurance Institute is preferred or working towards the same
 Strong working knowledge of MS Word and E-Mail an asset
 Solid understanding of liability (reserve setting), and claims handling
 Must have experience attending mediations and pre-trials
 Must have experience settling litigated files with third party legal representatives
 Must have exceptional customer service skills and an ability to deal with all levels both internal and external to the organization
 Must have strong organizational, communication, time management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities
 Responsible for managing claims, investigation, negotiation and settlement of incidents
 Attend mediations and pretrial’s (travel to other provinces will occasionally be required)
 Help to initiate and review risk control solutions
 Consult on training initiatives to reduce costs/frequency of operational accidents
 Identify business opportunities and provide recommendations (relating to risk procedures/maintenance) to reduce claims exposure
 Maintain up to date abeyances and ensure reserves are accurate and updated
 Complete Bodily Injury worksheets on higher value claims
