POSITION SUMMARY:
As Project Manager you will be part of a project management team responsible for managing and delivering the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for a large retailer in Toronto. Work includes directing project staff and delivering all aspects of the project. The Project Manager reports to the Associate Vice President and works collaboratively on a daily basis with the IFRS Program Manager and the client to meet their priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Delivery
• Accountable for overall delivery of projects, within the specified level of quality required by the project sponsor and program office, on time and within budget and scope
• Prepares formal project documentation and obtains appropriate authorizations a outlined by the program office
• Plans, prepares and maintains project schedules to meet standards
• Identifies critical path and determines and integrates milestones, control points, imposed dates and Go/No-go decision points into the schedule
• Uses appropriate planning and monitoring techniques to control project costs
• Manages scope, schedule and cost priorities between stakeholder groups and within the project team; Manages the activities of project(s) to align with strategic direction
Leadership
• Develops the project organization and structure to optimize alignment of individual and group skills with project tasks
• Provides a high level of relationship management; resolving conflicts and enabling discussions amongst stakeholders, management, co-workers and team members with varied interests
• Maintains and encourages open lines of communication between groups/functional areas/team members
• Provides leadership, motivation, coaching and professional development for project teams in order to obtain a high level of co-operation and contribution for all project team resources
• Mentors less experienced Associate Project Managers and Project Coordinators
Communication
• Prepares and delivers executive presentations; facilitate workshops, handles complex questions from varied audiences, and responds to difficult questions
• Prepares on a timely basis all status reporting and writes clear, concise and effective communications related to sensitive and complex issues
• Contributes to improve the best practices of the project management community within the Enterprise to help maintain project management professionalism
• Work with interested parties to negotiate contracts with external vendors to ensure receipt of specific resources and materials, as well as best value for the Enterprise
Decision-Making & Problem Solving
• Drives the decision-making process; is proactive in taking the initiative and the lead for identifying and resolving issues
• Conducts formal risk management sessions. Documents and manages a risk management plan
• Applies a structured approach to problem-solving and understands the context and impact of problems
• Escalates high impact risks and unresolved issues to the program office
• Provides post mortem/root cause analysis for significant issues
QUALIFICATIONS:
• University degree or equivalent
• Professional PM designation or equivalent in education and experience
• Minimum of 5 years experience managing medium to large sized, complex business and/or financial projects from strategy to implementation using a disciplined approach to project management
• Ability to manage at least three or more projects simultaneously
• Demonstrated PM competencies: budget and timeline management, scope management, risk management, timely decision making, effective team building, ability to prioritize and delegate appropriately and deal with changing priorities
• Experienced in Project Management methodologies and the ability to apply them in a flexible manner in various situations
• Experience with accounting and/or financial related projects, as well as financial systems
• Understanding/knowledge of IFRS
• Possesses strong leadership capabilities
• Possesses strong communication skills
• Is able to impact and influence key project participants and stakeholders
• Excellent people management skills; experience working with and managing teams in a matrix environment
• Executive presence, strong presentation and facilitation skills
