Description

Our client is currently seeking a Senior Building Science Engineer/Architect to meet their expanding project needs in their Edmonton office. The position will involve application of engineering principles to solve a wide range of building engineering problems. Projects include the full range of new building construction, forensic investigation of building problems and rehabilitation of existing buildings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture; Building Sciences, Environmental Management or related disciplines
• Professional Engineer or eligible to enroll with APEGGA
• 6-10 years related experience required
• Experience in the building/facilities, transportation, or an industrial environment is desired
• Project Management experience, including staff, budget and schedule control is preferred
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven stakeholder relationship, presentation, and documentation skills
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of accepted industrial standards and methods

Duties

• Working on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
• Exercising judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
• Coordinating work with other disciplines, such as architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, etc.
• Working without detailed supervision
• Supervising junior team members with regards to project work
• Conducting engineering/planning options comparisons by undertaking multi-factor assessments to select preferred cost-effective alternatives
• Preparing contract drawings and specifications in conjunction with project team for delivery to client
• Documenting study progress/results through the preparation of memos, minutes and reports
• Providing direction to project team members and support staff through verbal and written instructions and assign work to appropriate individuals
• Liaises with clients to exchange information re: project progress
• Providing technical judgment
• Conducting business development activities to secure new projects by client liaison and proposal preparation
• Preparing site visit reports by interpreting findings to give clear recommendations and direction to clients
• Reviewing shop drawings and design details by analyzing for continuity and viability
